Interview Questions

These are the questions that I asked the ladies today and will ask them tomorrow, as well as adding other questions and changing some slightly to fit to each response.

I tried to make them as open-ended as possible to get the most detailed answer from each person.

*DAY 2 UPDATE*
Today was our second day interviewing and I changed the question about body hair to a question about periods to get varied answeres between the two days.
I asked:
What do you think about the stigma behind periods?

First day of filming in the studio.

Today was the first of two days filming interviews in the studio. Here's some BTS photos that I took for our Instagram page. It went really well and we got a great variety of responses and footage to work with in the edit.

We also filmed the first part of the first scene today with one of the girls walking within sheets that we hung up on the set.

Overall I think the first day went wonderfully and we've come out with some great footage.

Creating an Instagram to Promote the Film.

Today was our first day in the studio so whilst we were painting, setting up equipment, doing test shots etc we took photos and I created an Instagram account for the film to promote it.

https://www.instagram.com/thevaliantfilm/

A lot of popular Instagrams have prominent themes so I've tried to recreate that with the use of pink.

I also have uploaded other artists work and tagged/ credited them to show those interested our inspiration behind the film and a little sneak peak at how it might turn out.

Locations

Today I was able to book out 2 studios for our interview shoots. We are filming in Prime studios 4 and the Electric press. We thought that it would be best to film our interview scenes in studios as it splits the rest of our scenes up so there is more contrast.

I have also managed to book out all the kit that we are wanting for those days.

I made a kit list for the shoot days so that we could made sure we had everything and keep track of it over the 3 days.

Practise Vid | Experimenting

I made a little film showing types of shots I would like to achieve and props I want to use, I overlapped a lot of the shots to make it flow more which we could possibly try in the edit of our film, so when we actually go to film we need more footage then we probably plan.
I also changed the some of the colour in some clips to make it that 'grundgy pink' we want in our film. I started the film with filming my bedding and edited it with a dreamy layer over it as we originally said that we want that dream like feeling at the beginning.
I filmed myself talking as well to show the close ups that I want to do in our film, like how its not directly on the subject, it sometimes comes away and revealing another part on the body, the constant movement looks really nice and keeps the frame interesting.
I originally said that I wanted to use the projector, but I feel we could just do normal shots in the studio and do this overlapping that I did instead in the edit, this might also be easier.
I think we should use props a lot as well as it's something the girls could be doing to relax them by focusing on something else or using it to cover certain places or just film the prop to have it as another shot for the edit.

Emailing women interested in taking part in the film.

After contacting a few people I knew might be interested, and posting a Facebook status searching for women who would want to take part, I took the ladies email addresses and send them this email:

Time Lapse

Time Lapse Experiment

I practised doing a short time lapse for when we do the breastfeeding scene. I only left it a couple of minutes and it left me with 7 seconds of footage. For the film we could leave it about 5 minutes and maybe get about 30 seconds of footage which is all we need for our shot that we want. This could prove difficult if somethings goes wrong and we have to start from the beginning, so we would need to be patient with this.

Experimenting with camera

I decided to start looking at what kinds of camera angles and movements we could use for our film to make it look more visually pleasing but also get our point across to the audience.

I used these objects as a reference to the shot where we are going to have vibrators on a table in the transition scenes and possibly have glitter bouncing around on the table with them. I think it would be good to get theses as close ups and be level with the camera, so that the movement is really clear and in focus. It could also be good to have the focus being pulled on it.

Here I wanted to play around with a grungy effect so that everything isn't all pink and clear, It makes the objects look really abandoned and has a sad/ depressing mood to it.

Here I just took a simple shot of a pink bed to see how we could approach the first of our scenes where the girl is playing around with a grapefruit and it squirts all over the bed. we could do a master shot of her in the bed and then follow her in.

I took a picture of this teddy bear to see how we could do it when it comes to the breast feeding scene when we just slowly track in of the woman form a level angle as a point of view shot.

Here I also played around with the kind of grungy look which we could use on the breastfeeding scene as it is going to be a time lapse and it going to be quiet. So I feel that the colour of the shot could also be in a different style.

Lina Scheynius | Photographer

I came across this photographer from an article, i  LOVE her work, it's so pure and natural and would love to get similar shots! Here's only a selection of images but if you want to look at more of her work this is the link to her tumblr:

All of her work is just lovely and really inspired me to get a similar theme but through film.

Studio scene inspiration

I was watching TV and I saw an advert for Misguided. I think it's a great reference for what we want from the studio scenes. In this commercial you hear an interview about female empowerment, different women of various races and ethnicities. This is a similar format to how we are thinking of doing our studio shots.

Here's another great video as inspiration for our studio work. It's a Teen Vogue behind the scenes film for a photo shoot.

I love this artists way of photographing women. It's flattering and sexual, yet real and genuine.

I love the idea of using a projector - we could project sensors (black boxes) onto a womans boobs.
